Reggie Wayne came through for a lot of fantasy owners last week, as did Patrick Crayton, Santonio Holmes and Greg Jennings. So who can be expected to step up in Week 2 of the fantasy football season?

Let’s find out in our Week 2 projections for the wide receiver position:

Marques Colston
, New Orleans Saints at Philadelphia Eagles
Colston didn’t have the greatest opening week (3 catches, 30 yards, 1 touchdown), but it was efficient enough to keep most fantasy players relatively pleased. However, in Week 2, Colston is going up against a defense that over the years has struggled to match up with big receivers, such as Colston. Drew Brees will definitely take advantage of that, hitting Colston on the skinny post routes that he loves to throw so much. And things could go really well for Colston if the Eagles don’t have cornerback Asante Samuel shadow him, because if Colston lines up on Sheldon Brown too often, that’s a size mismatch that Colston and Brees will take advantage of all day. While I don’t think we’ll see Drew Brees put up 6 touchdowns against this aggressive Eagles defense, he should have no problem getting the ball to Colston. And for that reason, it’s my fantasy football prediction that Colston is a top 5 wide receiver in Week 2.

Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers at Chicago Bears
Hines Ward may have lost a crucial fumble in the Steelers opening game last week, but all and all, he still had a beautiful day catching the ball. Hines finished Week 1 with 8 catches and 103 receiving yards, and he came devastatingly close to a touchdown as opposed to the lost fumble in the 4th quarter. Against the Chicago Bears, Hines Ward should have no problem finding the holes in the middle of their Cover 2 scheme. Granted, the Bears proved they can rush the passer last week, but bringing down Ben Roethlisberger is harder said than done, especially when he has a safety outlet like Hines Ward to rely on. Ward will take advantage of whoever is filling in for the injured Brian Urlacher, because if it’s an older guy, such as Hunter Hillenmeyer, Ward will have no problem working him over the middle of the field and gaining huge chunks of yardage. Thus, I like Ward’s chances at a 10-catch game for who knows how many yards. And if the Steelers can get the ground game going, we may even see Hines Ward take advantage of the overanxious Nathan Vasher, who got burned for the game-winner in Week 1.
