Let’s not waste time. Here are your “Buy or Sell” candidates for Fantasy Football Week 1!
Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins
BUY: This may be pretty obvious already, but Miles Austin is hella good! I know we kind of took it to him when a writer at ESPN said Austin was better than Andre Johnson, but that was clearly something we had to address. As for Austin himself though, he’s a great wide receiver and one that should have a stand out year yet again. I understand people being weary of the fact that Austin might be a one-year wonder and that we may not see that kind of season from him again in 2010. However, all the signs say that’s not going to be the case. If it were, good, sound teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and New Orleans Saints would not have struggled with defending Austin last year. Not to mention, the writer who wrote the piece on Austin had some good points. Austin was very good at every level of the passing tree, from short to long passes, he produced at high levels. Thus, no mater how you defend this guy, he’s capable of making plays. So while it pains me (as an Eagles fan) to give Austin his due, this guy is a tremendous receiver and should be among the top 6 wide receivers all fantasy football season long.
Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills
SELL: So Brandon Marshall took his talents to South Beach, huh? I bet you if he had the chance, Marshall would have hosted his own special to announce the trade that brought him from Denver to Miami. With that trade in place, however, Marshall’s numbers will probably take a step back in 2010. Not that he had the best quarterback in the world in Denver last year, but at least he was a part of a bona fide passing system and had other playmaking wide receivers around him. In Miami, the talent at wide receiver is thin and non-existent. Hell, they just traded away their most popular receiver in Greg Camarillo, and he wasn’t all that good. Marshall will see double-team after double-team as a member of the Dolphins, and none of his teammates will be able to help him out at all. Don’t get me wrong, running backs Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown will benefit from Marshall’s presence, because Marshall will make defensive coordinators worry about him. But as far as consistent production, that lack of talent around Marshall, coupled with a pubescent quarterback in Chad Henne, don’t exactly add up to success in Fantasy Football Week 1, or any week for that matter.
