Wide receivers are becoming bigger pieces of the fantasy football puzzle. The fact that Andre Johnson was a constant first round pick this year just shows you how much the passing game has evolved and how feeble the feature running back position has become. To help you recoup on the wide receiver picks you missed out on, here are a couple sleeper picks at the wide receiver position for Fantasy Football Week 2.

Michael Crabtree, San Francisco 49ers vs. New Orleans Saints

Maybe we are the only ones that think this, but Michael Crabtree isn’t going to have the greatest season in the world. We believe he is extremely talented and worth the high draft pick, but he’s still young and this will be his first full season in the NFL. That said, he’s bound to have a good day against the Saints and I say for two reasons. One; the Saints are very risky on defense, and although that results in a lot of beneficial plays, a wide receiver like Crabtree will make the Saints pay for all of their gambling. If you watched the Saints beat the Vikings in Week 1, you should have noticed how much the Vikings missed having Sidney Rice, a deep threat that can make a defense pay just with his athleticism alone. Crabtree has those same abilities, and inexperienced or not, he can run a go route with the best of them. Secondly, because the Saints are coming off a game in which the tight end burned them, you can bet that their focus will be on 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. That makes Crabtree the secondary focus the of the Saints defense, and in that role, he should make a couple of plays in Week 2.

Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns

Bowe was an utter disaster in 2009, which is why he went so low in fantasy football drafts this offseason. While I still don’t have much faith in him this season, he should come through for you in Fantasy Football Week 2. For starters, he’s going up against the Cleveland Browns, a team that doesn’t exactly defend the pass all that well. With Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones in the backfield, the Browns will have their hands full trying to stop that dynamic duo, and given Cleveland’s personnel, it’s safe to say the will need 8 men in the box to do that. Thus, that will leave Bowe on an island against the less than adequate cornerbacks of the Browns. Bowe may not be all that dependable, but if he’s one on one for the majority of a football game, he will make plays—especially against no-name corners. So if you were thinking about giving Bowe a try at some point this season, NFL Week 2 is definitely your opportunity to do it.
