The 2010 fantasy football season is set to commence…do you know who your sleeper picks are? Probably not, but TheSportsWatchers are here to help you. Here are our Fantasy Football Week 1 sleeper picks at the quarterback position.
Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions
Jay Cutler didn’t exactly live up to the hype last season, and as a result, he is one of the more unheralded quarterbacks of the 2010 fantasy football season. Our Week 1 Fantasy Football Projections have Cutler regaining some of that hype in Chicago this fall. With Mike Martz as his new offensive coordinator, I find it hard to believe that the lackluster Lions can keep up with the sophisticated passing system of Martz. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that the Detroit Lions have an impressive defensive line and the Chicago Bears have questions up down their front five. However, when it comes to the Martz passing system, I fully trust that any offensive line issues will be overcome by long pass plays and gashing runs. At the end of Week 1, expect Jay Cutler to come through as a sleeper pick and deliver a big day through the air.
Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots
The recent news that has Antonio Bryant off of the Cincinnati Bengals really does not affect the status of Carson Palmer. At the end of the day, Bryant was going to be the third option on this team (at best), and Carson Palmer still has both Matt Jones and rookie wide receiver Jordan Shipley to throw the ball to. Of course, it’s Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson that will make up a large percentage of Palmers completions, as both of them are very explosive players capable of making big plays every time they step on the football field. I know last year Palmer never really came through, despite having a decent team around him. But as we enter Fantasy Football Week 1, we have to take a long, hard look at the Bengals roster and recognize that Palmer has more toys than the son of the Toys-R-Us founder. With Owens, Johnson, Jones, Shipley and rookie TE Jermaine Gresham on the squad, the New England Patriots are going to have their hands full in the opening week of the NFL season. So bet against Carson if you want to, but my guess is that he’ll be near the top of the leader board to start the 2010 fantasy football season.
