While some passing games might struggle in Fantasy Football Week 2, many rushing attacks are poised for big weeks. Here are our fantasy football Week 2 projections for three running backs headed for very productive rushing games this Sunday.
Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons vs. Arizona Cardinals
Michael Turner should be on track for a big year in 2010. He has all the speed, power and vision you want out of an NFL quarterback, and he’s healthy! Against the Arizona Cardinals defense, Turner will prove he’s healthy with at least 100 yards rushing and a touchdown to top it all off. The Atlanta Falcons are a team that runs the ball to set up the pass, and Turner is the guy that does the setting up. He will get the carries, the yards and red zone scores that feature backs are supposed to get, because there really isn’t a running back on the Falcons roster that can challenge him in any form or fashion. Besides, the Cardinals front seven is about as holey as Swiss cheese and their secondary can’t tackle either. This should be an easy day for Michael “The Burner” Turner this Sunday.
Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals defense was awesome in 2009, and that included in their games against the Baltimore Ravens when they held Ray Rice to under 70 yards rushing in both games. But not so fast my friend! Even in their most valiant of efforts, the Bengals defense still couldn’t fully contain Rice, who went over 135 total yards in each game because of his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. So don’t worry about Ray Rice in Fantasy Football Week 2. Yes, the Bengals have a strong front seven that can play with the best of them, but Rice is too versatile to be stopped. He will come through with a very productive day, and whether it comes via the run or the pass is insignificant to our fantasy football projections—and your fantasy football interests for that matter!
DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DeAngelo Williams is a running back that a lot of fantasy football players were afraid of this summer. The angst has a lot to do with the fact that Williams has no help at the quarterback position and WR Steve Smith may not be what he used to be in the passing game. And if Williams becomes the most important aspect of this Panthers offense, that could be a bad sign. Teams could start to key-in on him, come after him, and for the first time in a while, allow Steve Smith to beat them. However, the Panthers saw a lot of run-oriented defensive schemes last year, and they still managed to produce two 1,000-yard rushers. I would find it quite incredible if the Buccaneers defense was able to slow down Williams in Fantasy Football Week 2. Then again, I would be surprised if the Buccaneers could slow down anybody.
