The start of the fantasy football season is here, and in Week 1, there is plenty of football news to discuss. Let’s look at some of the facts and conjectures surrounding running backs that are key to Fantasy Football Week 1.
Michael Bush, Oakland Raiders
Michael Bush could be out much longer than many of you thought. For those of you who picked up Bush as a sleeper in your fantasy football draft, I feel sorry for you. Bush may be out several weeks this season with a “Bennett fracture.” This opens the door for a guy like Darren McFadden to step his game up. Then again, the Oakland Raiders probably won’t give him a chance. Chester is a wide-open running back that the Raiders could trade for, as is Bernard Scott of the Cincinnati Bengals. But right now, the Raiders seem more interested in developing players than winning games. So with a not-oft talked about guy like Bush off the roster for Fantasy Football Week 1, one can only wonder who your backup running back is.
Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills
For those of you that thought an injured hand would keep a guy playing in Buffalo out of a game, think again! Fred Jackson, the running back for the Buffalo Bills, appears to have healed quite quickly since injuring his hand in Week 1 of the NFL’s preseason. The Bills leading rusher appears to be itching to play this Sunday, and the coaches for the Bills think it’s quite possible. Speaking with BuffaloBills.com was head coach Chan Gailey, who said, “He’s coming along real well…They’ve done a good job of protecting that hand where it shouldn’t be an issue.” If Jackson does play in Fantasy Football Week 1, that should curb the enthusiasm of anybody who thought CJ Spiller was going to be the feature back in Buffalo.
