Fantasy Football Week 9 Projections: Wide Receivers

Talk about an interesting week of fantasy football. There are a ton of teams sitting Fantasy Football Week 9 out do to the bye week, which will make it even harder to come up with these fantasy football projections. However, we did our best to analyze the matchups, so here are your fantasy football Week 9 projections at the wide receiver position.

Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans
It’s hard to keep putting Wayne on the big board each and every week, but he deserves it. And he certainly deserves it when he’s going up against the Texans, a team that is lucky to even be an average team against the pass. In fact, they really aren’t average. Their 15th ranked passing defense is just a tribute to the poor passing teams they have played as of late, as well as how God-awful they are at stopping the run. But don’t expect Manning to turn to the running game too much in Week 9, as the matchups for his offense, especially Reggie Wayne, are just too favorable not to exploit. The Texans don’t have a single cornerback in the city of Houston that they are comfortable leaving on an island with Wayne, but at some point, they will have to do just that. And when they do, you can expect Peyton manning to take advantage of that and find Wayne deep on more than one occasion in fantasy football Week 9.

Andre Johnson, Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
Andre Johnson is another wide receiver I keep ranking highly, but how can you blame me? The matchups he has each and every week are way in his favor. Even in going up against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts which have the 7th best passing defense in the NFL, I still like the matchup. Why? Because as good as the Colts defense appears on paper, they do run a fairly simple defense that most talented quarterbacks are capable of taking advantage of. And while I mean no disrespect to the Colts or any of the quarterbacks their defense has played, the Colts just haven’t gone up against an above average quarterback as of late. Thus, I like Andre Johnson’s chances in this game. I don’t’ know if quarterback Matt Schaub will look like Drew Brees in Week 9, but I know he knows how to beat the Cover 2 defense, and I definitely know that Andre Johnson will beat the Cover 2 defense. So I can’t speak to Schaub’s performance, which is why he isn’t among my top fantasy football picks for Week 9, but he should have no problem getting the ball to Johnson, who is in for a big game in Week 9.

Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers at New York Giants
It’s almost laughable. This matchup against the Giants secondary is so in favor of Vincent Jackson that it is not even fair. The Giants secondary is not only banged up, but the guys they play are smallish. Vincent Jackson, on the other hand, may be the biggest wide receiver in the NFL, and he has big numbers to go with that size of his. Vincent is fresh off destroying the Oakland Raiders, a team that actually has a pretty good cornerback on their roster in Nmadi Asomugha. However, the Giants have no such talent at cornerback, and so I doubt they will even be able to remotely contain Jackson in Week 9. Not to mention, with the Chargers running game looking more and more respectable, the Giants might have to go one-on-one with Jackson more than they would like to against the Chargers, and if they do, don’t be surprised when Jackson has better fantasy numbers than any other wide receiver in Week 9.
