Fantasy Football Week 12 Sleeper Picks: Running Backs

It’s that time of year again. The fantasy football season is winding down, so we all are in need of a few sleeper picks to bolster our rosters. Here are our fantasy football Week 12 sleeper picks at the running back position:

Steve Slaton, Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts
In 2008, Steve Slaton had one of the most dazzling rookie seasons we have seen from a running back. But in 2009, he isn’t doing much to help his cause or his fantasy football owners. This week, hopefully, he can’t get the ball rolling again. The Colts defense isn’t exactly the best team in the world at stopping the run. In fact, they have been run over quite a few times this season, by teams of all different talent levels. So don’t be surprised when you see Slaton running wild on the Colts, because with his speed the Colts need to play Cover 2 defense against Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub, the running game should be wide open for Slaton to put forth a prolific day on the ground. If you were thinking about benching Slaton in Week 12, you might want to think again. This could be one of the few times he actually lives up to his potential.

Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Rice isn’t much of a sleeper pick. Afterall, he is a top 5 running back when it comes to fantasy football. However, he is playing the Pittsburgh Steelers, which has left him low on the ranking boards of many fantasy football analysts. But I think he’s going to do quite a number on the Steelers. The Steelers are fresh off a game against the Chiefs in which they gave up multiple big plays to the Chiefs. Well, any defense that gives up the big play, certainly isn’t going to be able to deal with Ray Rice too well. Rice has made a living off of big plays this season, in both the passing and running game. So while the Steelers may hold Rice to 1 and 2-yard gains for most of the game, those 20 and 30+ yard runs and screen plays that their capable of giving up may come back to hurt them again in Week 12, which would be a tremendous benefit to fantasy football owners with Ray Rice eon their squads.
