2009 Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings: #3, Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts

#3 Fantasy Football Quarterback: Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts
I know there are many issues surrounding the Colts and their offense now that Tony Dungy and Tom Moore aren’t there everyday. But Manning was essentially a top 5 quarterback his rookie season, so don’t expect him to fall too far back in the fantasy football rankings, not matter what the personnel around him is like.

Yes, his perennial long-time threat of Marvin Harrison has officially been let go from the team, and certainly he will not have the consistency on the offensive line that he is accustomed to having now that his offensive line coach is gone. But Manning was still the NFL’s MVP in what was essentially a down year for him, and he threw 27 touchdown passes in a season where he only had 1 down-field threat in Reggie Wayne.

Because of the declining talent around him, I do not think we can expect much more than 30 touchdowns from Manning this fantasy football season. However, you know that Manning is going to give you 4,000 yards and many big performances because of his team’s ability to throw the ball in the red zone. Besides, there is not a more consistent fantasy football quarterback than Peyton Manning, and no one who has ever drafted him has complained about his services. I don’t expect anyone who drafts him this year, even as the #3 quarterback overall, will have any complaints about Manning this season either.

My 2009 fantasy football projection for Manning is right around 30 touchdowns, 4,200 passing yards and very few mistakes. Some of the defenses in the AFC South division have taken a step backwards, which should help Manning slightly improve upon his “MVP numbers” from a year ago.
