Ah, yes! Well, somebody has to predict what will happen at this position, so why not me. Here are your Week 9 fantasy football predictions at the tight end position…
Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington Redskins – I know that Heath Miller is not the sexiest pick when it comes to Tight Ends. Of course, if you had a sexy tight end to choose from, you probably wouldn’t be reading this piece. That said, I think Miller will have one of the better performances among Tight Ends in Fantasy Football Week 9. I know it’s not a very favorable defensive matchup, however, the Redskins do you like to sit back and let their safeties make plays, so there should be a lot of soft openings for Miller in the flats and over the middle of the field. Secondly, Miller is a big time red zone target for this Steelers team. Yes, he only has 1 touchdown target, but in Week 9, Santonio Holmes is out, making Miller the most viable option for the Steelers when they get close to the end zone.
Tony Scheffler, Denver Broncos vs. Miami Dolphins – Scheffler has seen brighter days this season, but I think we’ll see him return to receiver excellence in Week 9. He should have very good numbers against a Miami Dolphins defense that is susceptible to giving up big plays in the passing game. In fact, the Dolphins have given up the 2nd most 20+-yard passing plays in the NFL (25), which means that there should be plenty of opportunities for Scheffler to make a big play for a score against a defense that just seems to let receivers and tight ends do whatever they want to. Don’t worry about Scheffler and his injury, he should be good to go coming off the Week 8 bye week the Broncos just had. In fact, the bye week should also help Scheffler out strategically, as I am sure that the Broncos worked extra hard on working their pass-catching tight end back into the offense.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Predictions & Projections: Tight Ends
Top Wide Receiver Pick of Week 9: Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
It should come as no surprise that the wide receiver with the most to offer in Week 9 of fantasy football is the receiver who has offered the most points over the past 4 weeks of the season.
Andre Johnson, Houston Texans at Minnesota Vikings – This dude is a beast when it comes to football, and he is showing everybody why. Andre Johnson is an unstoppable force. He has been that way since he entered the league. Nothing has been more evident of that than his last 4 weeks of the season where he has put up over 130 yards in each game and has caught at minimum, 9 catches in each contest.
His fantasy football point totals over the last 4 weeks have been, 21, 24, 17 and 17! That is just ridiculous production for a wide receiver. If he keeps that up, he’ll be the next wide receiver considered worthy of a first round pick in fantasy football leagues.
But most importantly, if he keeps that up for Fantasy Football Week 9, he can make your fantasy football team walk away with a win. He’s gong up against a Minnesota defense that is extremely soft against the pass. With QB Matt Schaub back there throwing those downfield passes with great precision, I don’t see any reason why Johnson won’t have a 5th straight week of utter domination on the football field. There is no one on that Vikings team who can match up with Johnson’s speed and size. And with the way that teams have to respect the rushing game of the Texans with the emergence of RB Steve Slaton, not even the stout Vikings defense can stand to take that 8th man out of the box too often.
So, I predict that Andre Johnson walks out of Minnesota with at least 10 catches and 150 yards. He’ll probably throw in at least one touchdown for you, but my money is on two, as the Vikings certainly won’t allow the Texans to run the ball in from the red zone. That’s my Week 9 fantasy football prediction for the best wide receiver this week. What’s yours? (Comment below…)

Week 9 Sleeper Picks in Fantasy Football: Wide Receiver, Devin Hester
A kick returner as my sleeper pick?
You damn right!
Devin Hester, Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions – It’s risky, but they don’t call this a sleeper pick for nothing.
As we all know, Hester is one heck of a return man. So good, that very few people have given him chance to do his thing this season, as kickers and punters have kicked away from this guy all season. But the value in picking Hester up in Week 9 of fantasy football isn’t in the kicking game—heck, most of you don’t even include special teams points for your individual players.
Instead, Hester’s value is as a receiver. Believe it or not, Hester actually 3 straight games with double digit performances, scoring a receiving touchdown in two of them and racking up 6 catches for 87 yards in the other. One of those double-digit games was against Detroit, who Hester just happens to play here in Week 9 of fantasy football.
Detroit is not good. We all know that. And Devin Hester knows that, too. Expect Hester to get the ball in this one, especially going deep, as there is certain to be some type of lapse in the Lions defense that blows a coverage and allows Hester to get an easy touchdown. And even if the Lions don’t make a mistake like that, Hester has proven that he can be effective against this defense in possession receiver role. He caught 5 balls for 66 yards and TD in his first meeting against Detroit in Week 5 of fantasy football, and I see no reason why he couldn’t do it again. So don’t be afraid t put Hester in your line up in Week 9 as well, as he is a safe option to get quite a few targets against a defense that is giving up all kinds of fantasy football points to receivers this season.

Fantasy Football Predictions Week 9: Wide Receivers
You have to love those wide receivers, they are really a wild bunch. So wild that they can’t seem to put forth any type of consistency this fantasy football season. No worries though, I try to make sense out of the madness in my Week 9 Fantasy Football predictions for wide receivers.
Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants – I know. I know. Terrell Owens has been death to your fantasy football team over the past couple of weeks. Granted, he’s been playing with QB Brad Johnson behind center, which has certainly hurt his game. But even before that, he put up a stinker of performance (4 catches for 36 yards) against the whack Arizona Cardinals defense. But this week, expect T.O. to break out of the funk, no matter who is at the quarterback position for the Cowboys. The ball is going to T.O. this week, because the Giants secondary is vastly overrated and not equipped to guard T.O. one on one. Nevertheless, T.O. will see plenty of one-on-one coverage, because that is what the Giants have been doing as of late to spruce up their quarterback rush-game. So if it’s Brooks Bollinger or the 40-year old QB himself, expect T.O. to get the ball early and often in Week 9 of fantasy football, as it is my fantasy football prediction that he will have one of his best games of the season in Week 9.
Plaxico Burress, New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys – On the other hand, Plaxico Burress is the other wide receiver in the Giants/Cowboys game that is certainly worth a start this week. He is coming off a game where the Giants evidently needed him in key situations, but he was on the sideline for disciplinary reasons. Well, assuming Plzx can get his stuff together for at least one week, he should have a very good Week 9 in fantasy football because just like his own team, the Cowboys are currently lacking a lot of talent at the cornerback position. With Anthony Henry, Terrence Newman, and Pacman Jones all either out or hobbled for this game, there is absolutely no way that Burress doesn’t have a good fantasy football points output in Week 9. Eli should be looking to go to Burress everytime he steps back, and I expect many of those looks to be of the deep variety with some problems at the safety position for the Cowboys. So it’s my prediction that Plaxico Burress has a big day—say maybe 125+ yards and 2 touchdowns for the disruptive receiver.
Gregg Jennings, Green Bay Packers at Tennessee Titans – Jennings in 2nd in the NFL in receiving yards with 685 yards. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “But this week he plays the Titans!” Well, that may be true, and yes, the Titans aren’t likely to give up the big play. However, the one thing the Titans defense seems to be vulnerable to is the pass up the seams. They love playing their linebackers up close and putting their safeties on the outside for help on the sidelines, so when receivers go over the middle of the of field, they tend to have more success against this team. Well, the Packers run a West Coast offense that should (and will) send Jennings over the middle often. He’ll get plenty of looks in the seams and on crossing routes, and should have a very productive day for your fantasy football team in Week 9.

Top Pick of Week 9: Running Back, Brian Westbrook
Yes, after his big fantasy football week against the Falcons, I have to make Brian Westbrook my pick to dominate the running back position in Week 9 of fantasy football.
Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia Eagles at Seattle Seahawks – He’s just that good. He’s so good that I actually do kind of regret not picking him with the 4th overall pick in my fantasy football draft. I went with Steven Jackson, not a bad choice, but even with Westbrook missing two games and a leaving another one early, he is still ranked in the top 10 among fantasy football running backs in terms of points scored. So as long as he is on the field, he has to be a pick to have a good game every week. And there is no exception here in Week 9 of fantasy football with Westbrook taking on that “ferocious” Seattle Seahawks defense.
The Seahawks can’t stop anybody. Their defense is horrible. They rank 27th in the league and they give up 367 yards per game. I expect the Eagles to reach that average with no problem, and Westbrook will probably be the one to rack up most of those yards. Westbrook is an all-around player, the type that the Seahawks are least equipped to handle. If the Seahawks decide to stack the box and take away the rushing game, then Donovan McNabb can throw it to Westbrook. If they step back and only put 7 people in the box, then McNabb can hand it off to Westbrook. Either way, Westbrook is going to get his fantasy football points in Week 9, regardless of what Seattle’s plan is coming in to the game.
But it’s not like I have to tell you that Westbrook needs to be a starter in your fantasy football week 9 line up. You already know that. And of course my Week 9 fantasy football prediction that he’ll amass over 200 total yards in Week 9 is isn’t necessary to sway your judgment either. However, I hope that what I have said will convince you to make a last minute effort to try and trade for Westbrook before your fantasy football deadline comes up, because with him back in the lineup, he may be the best fantasy football option there is going forward.

Week 9 Sleeper Picks: Running Back, Edgerrin James
This week’s sleeper pick at the running back position is an oldie by a goodie. I’m taking it back. Way back. Back into time with a player that most people consider way past his prime. They’re probably right, but he should have one good week in him in Week 9 of fantasy football.
Edgerrin James, Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams – It hasn’t been all bad for the Edge this season. He has had 3 double-digit games this season, including a 20.5 performance in Week 4 against a week New York Jets offense. Well, his defensive counterpart in Week 9 of fantasy football is certainly not much better.
The Rams allow runningbacks to score 8.5 points above their average output. That would mean that Edgerrin James would put up 17 points in Week 9 if that trend continues, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t.
We all know that the Cardinals are a passing team, and the Rams know that as well. If the Rams want to win this game, they will have to stop the Cardinals passing attack that includes a revitalized Anquan Bolding, Larry Fitzgerald and the upcoming Steve Breaston. That is going to require a lot of attention from the Rams defense, which should leave a lot of lanes open for James and the rushing attack of the Arizona Cardinals.
So it is my prediction that the Edge runs wild in Week 9 of fantasy football. The Rams will be to focused on stopping the Cardinals trio of receivers, and James will be able to advantage of that and shouldn’t average less than 5 yards a carry. And don’t worry about Edgerrin having his touchdowns sniped away by RB Tim Hightower. When the Cardinals get in the red zone, the Rams focus will be on stopping Fitzgerald and Bolding. That should allow the running game for the Cards to score from a little further out, which means Edgerrin will have a good opportunity to get his first rushing touchdown since Week 5 of fantasy football.

Fantasy Football Predictions Week 9: Running Backs
There are not a whole lot of good matchups for running backs in Week 9 of fantasy football. But I have the few that are, so let’s get right to it. Here are your Week 9 fantasy football predictions at the running back position….
Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings vs. Houston Texans – Adrian Peterson off of bye week? Are you serious? And time this man is healthy and fresh is a bad time for the opposing defense. I don’t know what he’ll do, or how he’ll do it. It could be through the air, it could be through the ground, or it could even be on special teams for all I know. But Adrian Peterson will be a major factor this week, and he will certainly light up the fantasy football scoreboard with several explosion plays—something the Texans have given up quite often this season. To be specific, the Texans have given up 23 plays of 20 yards are more this season. It’s not a lot, but it’s quite a few, and their 19 explosion plays allowed in the passing game should make the screen game a dangerous weapon for Adrian Peterson and the Vikings. So it’s my prediction that Peterson amasses at least 150 total yards in Week 9 of fantasy football, in what should be yet another exhibition of his running back prowess.
Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins at Denver Broncos – Ronnie Brown did not have the best of days in Week 8. In fact, he didn’t have the best of days in Week 7 either. But the difference between those two poor performances and the one he is likely to have in Week 9 of fantasy football is that those games were against two defenses ranked in the top 11 in yards allowed per carry, including the number 1 rushing defense, the Baltimore Ravens. But in Week 9, Ronnie Brown is up against the Denver Broncos, so he won’t have to worry about any stout rough defenses this Sunday. The Browns allow a staggering 5.4 yards per carry, which is 2nd to last in the NFL. They also give up over 154 yards on the ground per game and have allowed the 2nd most 20+ yard runs in the league. Do I really need to go any further with why Ronnie Brown is going to have an astounding day rushing the ball in Week 9?
Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons at Oakland Raiders – Michael Turner didn’t have such a good rushing day against the Philadelphia Eagles defense. He was 17 for 58 and didn’t score any touchdowns. But expect his Week 9 numbers to look a lot different against the Raiders. The Raiders are allowing 4.5 yards per carry and over 144 yards per game. Tuner has feasted on defenses that aren’t stout on the defensive line, and the Raiders, partially due to injury, have holes in that front 7 that would make Swiss Cheese jealous. It’s only likely that Turner pad the stat books in this game, as he goes for probably close to 200 yards and 2 scores against a team and a defense that really doesn’t stand much of a chance at stopping the Falcons ground game in Week 9.

Top Quarterback Pick of Week 9: Eli Manning
It’s Fantasy Football Week 9, do you know which Manning to play this week?
Despite all of the love I have for quarterback Peyton Manning, this season belongs to his brother in New York City, which is why Eli Manning is my Top Pick for the quarterback position in Week 9 of fantasy football.
Eli Manning, New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys – Eli has looked brilliant this season. Surely, he regresses for stretches at a time that just make Giants fans cringe all over the Tri-State area. But for the most part, he has been the prototypical quarterback, and going up against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has more injuries and holes in Week 9 than it has personalities in the locker room, I would just have to think that Eli is in for a very big day through the air.
The Dallas Cowboys continue to have issues in their pass defense with key players like Roy Williams, Terrence Newman, Anthony Henry and Adam Pacman Jones out for various reason. As a result, the Cowboys currently rank 19th against the pass (203.1 passing yards allowed per game) and the quarterback rating against them is a staggering 90.5!
Well, we certainly know that Eli Manning more than capable of padding the stats against a defense that has allowed its opponents to be that efficient throwing the ball. Eli has been the epitome of efficiency all season long. He has thrown a touchdown pass in every game except the season opener, and he has only thrown an interception in 2 of the 7 games he has played in so far this season. Eli Manning is also completing 61% of his passes and he is averaging 7.1 yards per pass.
But as Giants fans know, Eli doesn’t average a whole lot of passing yards because the Giants run the ball so well when they get ahead in games. Well, you won’t have to worry about that. It is my prediction that the Giants-Cowboys game in Week 9 will be nothing other than an old-fashioned shoot-out. The Cowboys should be able to take advantage of a flawed Giants secondary, and as I have mentioned, Eli should be able to take advantage of the Cowboys suspect secondary. Both of these teams, however, are incredible against the run, so neither team will have the luxury of rushing the ball 30 times in Week 9. So expect a lot of throws from Mr. Manning, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended Week 9 with 3 touchdowns and his first 300-passing yard performance of this 2008 NFL Fantasy Football season.

Week 9 Sleeper Picks in Fantasy Football: Quarterback - Marc Bulger
Well, I’m deciding to get on the bandwagon in Week 9 of fantasy football before it is too full. This week’s fantasy football sleeper pick, should be as good as last week’s quarterback sleeper pick. Because my pick for this week is going up against a team that not only gives up a ton of passing yards, but gives up a ton of passing touchdowns.
Marc Bulger, St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals – That’s right! This week’s sleeper pick at the quarterback position goes to none other than Marc Bulger. Bulger was yanked early this season, was taking hits early this season and hadn’t broken the 200-passing yard mark all season long…until last week that is!
Sure it was in a loss, but Marc Bulger owned the secondary of the New England Patriots last week, and he will own the secondary of the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 as well!
The Cardinals are just flat out horrible at defending the pass. They rank 12th against the pass, allowing just over 222 yards per game, but that stat is not as telling as some of the others. For example, their opponents’ quarterback rating against them is a combined 108.6! That is unbelievable! It’s the third highest QB rating against any defense in the NFL. The Cardinals give up 8.1 yards per pass attempt and they allow their opponents to complete over 67% of their passes. So it would seem to me that any quarterback that plays against the Cardinals is a good pick in fantasy football.
But it is an especially good pick in Week 9 when it is Marc Bulger, who throughout his career has been one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL. He also seems to be clicking very well with rookie WR Donnie Avery, and Bulger should be getting his horse back, in RB Steven Jackson who is likely to give it a go in Week 9. So Bulger should be available on the waiver wires, as he hasn’t done much of anything all season. So pick him up if you can, because my Week 9 prediction for him is at 350 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, because, yes, as I have proven, the Cardinals defense is that bad!

Fantasy Football Predictions Week 9: Quarterbacks
Quarterback play this fantasy football season has been quite interesting, hasn’t it? Aaron Rodgers is leading all fantasy players in fantasy points through Week 9? Are we serious? And who would have thought that Kyle Orton would be a top 10 fantasy point producer, above players like Donovan McNabb, Eli Manning and Peyton himself? Oh well. Despite the craziness of the football season, it’s time to give my fantasy football predictions for Week 9...
Kyle Orton, Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions – Like I said, Kyle Orton is a better option than most quarterbacks out there. He has had double-digit fantasy football points in his last 5 starts, and he is coming off a bye week. Add the fact that he is going up against the Detroit Lions, whom he had his best day of the season against (334 yards, 2 touchdown passes), and Week 9 of fantasy football should be a beautiful passing day for Kyle Orton. It is my prediction that he’ll come through with at least 3 touchdowns on the day. Afterall, this game is in Chicago, and barring any crazy weather related circumstances, the homefield advantage should only help Orton outdo what he did the last time he faced the Detroit Lions.
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington Redskins – Big Ben didn’t look too well against the New York Giants last week. In fact, his 1 touchdown and 4 interception performance was perhaps the very reason that the Steelers lost that game. But don’t expect Ben to comeback and continue turning the ball over to the defense. He’ll bounce back with a very good game, just as he usually does. And don’t be afraid to start him against the Redskins defense, because that defense isn’t as solid against the pass as you may have thought. They only rank a modest 11th overall against the pass, and they have had injury problems in the secondary for a good part of the season. So expect Big Ben to have a good day, as he continues to foster a passing relationship with WR Nate Washington and as the Steelers are likely to welcome Santonio Holmes back in the lineup as well.
Jeff Garcia, Tampa Bay at Kansas City Chiefs – Jeff Garcia is just a solid quarterback. You can play him without fear every week because he is going to be very efficient, and he is going to take everything that the defense gives him. In Week 9 of fantasy football, Garcia is going up against the Chiefs, which means the defense will give him a whole lot to play with in Week 9. The Chiefs give up 7.7 yards per pass and allow their opponents to complete almost 62% of their pass attempts. With a porous defense like that, it’s highly unlikely that the Chiefs will be able to stop a quarterback like Garcia who has no problem checking the ball down and slowly moving the chains. So it is my Week 9 fantasy football prediction that Garcia will go for at least 3 touchdowns and 200 yards, assuming this matchup doesn’t get too ugly, too early in the game.
